The art of balance in subsea-staffing

In Level Offshore’s mission to provide quality staffing to the offshore industry, success hinges on a delicate balance.

On one side, clients have problems they want solved through Level Offshore’s personnel. On the other, there’s an increasingly diverse and expanding candidate pool with varying needs to consider.

Level Offshore’s recruitment specialist, Brian Lie, navigates this balance daily.

– We often see that our personnel are looking for different things, Brian explains.

– Some are young and want to focus on working as much as possible to gain experience quickly. Others are veterans in the industry and want to maintain a better work-life balance.

Ultimately, everything boils down to delivering as promised to the client.

– Our livelihood depends on maintaining high-quality deliveries. But that doesn’t mean we just send whoever is available. There are subtle differences in our staff that both we and our clients benefit from recognizing.

– For instance, in the long run, placing an experienced rigger in an environment where their work-life balance isn’t considered is unwise. Similarly, assigning young and inexperienced personnel to long hours on challenging tasks has its own drawbacks.

Listening is contagious

For Brian, finding the right balance is an art—achieved simply by listening, a surprisingly contagious gesture.

–First, we listen carefully to our clients’ needs when they explain the job they want done.

–Then, something magical happens when we listen to our personnel’s needs: They feel seen and start listening to our clients’ needs, working with us to find a solution—a balance.

– At the end of the day, our staff genuinely wants to deliver quality. They take pride in their work. In recruitment, our main job is to see people and meet them where they are.
